      Yellow brown to greyish green colour. Not clearly demarcated sapwood, fine texture.

      Possible end-uses: heavy carpentry, exterior joinery, bridges (in touch with ground or water), sleepers, exterior panelling, bottom panels for vehicles or containers

      Marketing: Logs, Sawnwood, Joists, Decking

      Physical and mechanical properties: Hard and dense with high resistance and durability for exterior uses

    • Padouk

      Pterocarpus soyauxii

      The wood has bright red colour, which rapidly turns purplish brown when exposed to light. Slightly interlocked grain. Fine texture.

      Origin: Cameroon, Congo and Gabon

      Possible end-uses: flooring, heavy carpentry, decking, exterior panelling.

      Marketing: Sawnwood and Joists

      Physical and mechanical properties: the wood is hard to semi-hard, moderately nervous and elastic with excellent shock-resistance. Naturally durable.

      Swartzia fistuloides

      The wood is white pinkish to light red with red brown veins.

      Origin: Cameroon and Congo

      Possible end-uses: furniture, veneers, flooring, cabinet-making

      Marketing: Logs and Sawnwood

      Physical and mechanical properties: Hard to very hard and nervous wood. Elastic with high splitting resistance. Naturally durable.

    • Sapele

      Entandrophragma cylindricum

      Red-brown wood with glinting strips when quarter sawn. Darkens in light. Clearly demarcated greyish-pink sapwood.

       

      Origin: Congo and Cameroon

      Possible end-uses: Interior and exterior joinery, plywood, flooring, stairs

      Marketing: Logs, Sawnwood, Solid Finger-jointed Blocks, Components for blade shutters and other manufactured products

      Physical and mechanical properties: Fine texture, usually straight grain. This species has the advantage of uniform colour, good bonding performances and good compatibility with finished products.

      Entandrophragma utile

      Red brown wood with mottled shades and irregular grain. Even colour.

      Origin: Cameroon and Congo

      Physical and mechanical properties: the wood is soft, elastic and moderately nervous. Low shock-resistance

      Erythropleum suaveolens

      Yellow or orangey brown heartwood with red shades that darken when exposed to light. Well demarcated sapwood; coarse texture.

    • Wenge

      Millettia laurenti

      Yellow wood when green, turning dark brown to black brown. The wood contains alternate light and dark stripes.

      Origin: Gabon

      Possible end-uses: Sliced veneers, furniture, flooring, cabinet-making

      Marketing: Sawnwood

      Physical and mechanical properties: the wood is hard, nervous, quite fissile and very elastic with excellent shock-resistance.
